Essential Oils for Stress Relief

 

Aromatherapy is real! Essential oils blends have a sure-fire calming effect. If you’re still doubting it, it’s time you tried it for yourself. If work is all stress and no fun, this is for you! Numerous studies reveal essential oils have a calming and relaxing effect, controlling even our anxiety and panic. The best part about it is that you don’t have to take a lot of time out to make this work.

How to use essential oils for anxiety, you ask?

  • Apply 2-3 drops of oil on your forearm or a piece of cloth and inhale the fragrance.
  • Essential oil burner/Diffuser- Mix the essential oil with a carrier of your choice and time it to diffuse the fragrance over a period of time. Make sure you do this at regular intervals so the fragrance doesn’t become overpowering.
  • Baths- add 5-10 drops of your favourite essential oil to a carrier like almond oil or aloe vera and then mix it with your bath. Mixing it with shampoo or moisturizer works just as fine too.

Lavender oil for Stress relief

Lavender has rightly been named an adaptogen, meaning it can adapt to any mood. The calming effect can be as quick as 5 minutes. Studies show that it lowers the heart rate and blood pressure causing a calming and relaxing effect. Lavender essential oil comes in all forms, as sprays, diffusers, massage oils, and baths salts. Ingestible oils are also now common which can be added to tea, herbal tea is now sold in many shops. Lavender oil, besides its prized aroma and calming therapy, also has a sedative effect. This can be used before you go to bed to ensure a relaxed sleep.

Lemongrass oil for Stress relief

Lemongrass oil, with its fresh and strong aroma, is commonly used for calming effects and stress relief. It can be combined with lavender oil, for better effects. It can be applied directly on the wrists or forehead or dabbed on a piece of clothing.

Eucalyptus oil for Stress relief

This is most commonly used to treat a headache and the result is almost immediate. It gives a fresh energetic fragrance that relaxes the mind. This can be inhaled directly for immediate effect. Be sure to dilute it before you use it in a diffuser as the fragrance could be overpowering.

Studies show rose oil helps in improving mental strength and improving the confidence of a person. They not only help reduce anxiety and panic but also help in overcoming depression. 10 minutes of inhalation or a bath in rose oil brings about improved mood and joy.

This is another oil prized for its aroma and is also easily available and affordable. It is known for its relaxing and calming effects and improvement in mood and sleep patterns of the person. This has to be added with a carrier first before it can be used in diffusers and baths.

This has a citrus fruity aroma that is right away calming and relaxing. It helps with insomnia and depression too. Its sedative effect gives us a good night’s sleep. This oil is also used in making perfumes owing to its refreshing aroma. Many studies are done on bergamot oil which has proved improved mood and reduced stress levels and agitation. Bergamot essential oil blends well with lavender oil to bring out better effects.

This fragrance is refreshing and fresh and is also easily available and affordable. This lightens your mood and calms your mind. This is usually combined with lavender oil to give a fruity floral fragrance. This combination can be used in diffusers and baths.

The essential oils can be grouped with each other to bring out combined aromas and effects. The blends bring out improved effects. Add 4-6 drops of each oil that you wish to blend and mix it with a carrier before use. Make sure the fragrance isn’t overpowering and intense and use it at regular intervals.
